Iceland community model changed culture to prevent youths from starting to use drugs, alcohol. Wrote Lisa Rutledge in an article in Cambridge Times in Canada.
It is possible to reduce youth drinking and drug use, to the point of near eradication, if communities seeking revolutionary change are prepared to commit, collaborate and buy-in for the long haul.
While such aspirations sound like wishful, utopian thinking, communities in Iceland have already proven adolescents can be guided away from drinking and using drugs, over time, as long as stakeholders agree to take collective ownership over raising children to live healthier lives.-to-give-up-drink-and-drugs.
