Who we are
Planet Youth is an analytics and consulting organization that runs a guidance program in primary substance use prevention through a collaborative approach based on the Icelandic Prevention Model. This approach is multi-sector, evidence-informed, community-based, and adaptable.
What we do
Planet Youth focuses on strengthening protective factors and weakening risk factors in the environment of youth and adolescents through building healthy community environments in domains young people spend the most time in: family, school, peer group, and leisure time (out of school).
How do we do it?
With guidance from the Planet Youth team, local coalitions work through a 10-step process that focuses on team building, community awareness, data collection and dissemination, collecting community feedback, creating goals and strategies, and reflection and repetition. Each 10-step cycle builds off the other and actions are focused on targeting domains where adolescents spend most of their time: Family, school, peer group, and leisure time (out of school). Throughout the process, Planet Youth encourages creating and maintaining a dialogue among researchers, policymakers, and practitioners.
